Many people were on hand at Garigal National Park in Sydney’s north to officially launch 2014’s Bushcare’s Major Day Out. Despite intermittent rain, the sun shone briefly while this year’s Major Day was welcomed. Federal and State politicians said they would continue to support Bushcare’s Major Day Out, congratulating it on its success and vowing to mention it in Parliament.
Supporting the launch were Angus Stewart of Gardening Australia, Don Wilson founder of BMDO, Paul Fletcher Federal MP, Jonathan O’Dea NSW State MP, Willoughby City Council Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney, representatives of NSW National Parks and Wildlife, Landcare Australia and bushcare volunteers from Bayer Australia.
With over 220 sites registered in all States and Territories, 2014 has surpassed expectations with land managers enthusiastically supporting a day to encourage all Australians to take part in the maintenance of our bushland for future generations.
